Inter-Lakes School District

...Home of the Lakers

Dear SCS Families:

go foxes! Logo

As I type this, the forecast is calling for another beautiful day in the Lakes Region. I hope this finds you and your family enjoying a cool place to play and relax.

The Inter-Lakes administrators are preparing for the next school year and I know that the faculty is also gearing up. I want to commend and thank Ms. Markley and Mrs. Brown for organizing and running a successful Summer Blast program at SCS. They have been exploring ocean themed learning and it sounds like everyone had a lot of fun. I also want to recognize our new custodian, Roger Copp. Mr. Copp has been working tirelessly to prepare the school and things are looking great! Wait until you see the new gym floor. Go Foxes!!!

Welcome to our New Faculty

This year we have two new members joining the SCS team. Mrs. Sarah “Sally” Johnston is our new Middle Multiage teacher. She has already spent many hours here at school getting ready and is excited to get started. Mrs. Johnston is a longtime Sandwich resident and SCS alumna. She has been working in the Winnisquam School District for the last seven years and is an accomplished educator. We are excited to have her back at SCS! In addition, Mrs. Kim Massaro is joining us as the new art teacher. Mrs. Massaro is an experienced educator, professional artist, and an artist in residence. I feel incredibly fortunate to have two such talented teachers joining our school community. Please feel free to stop by and say hello.

Last year a committee of educators was tasked with selecting a new K-6 reading resource. The goals of this committee included finding a resource that will provide an efficient scope and sequence as well as the materials to meet all learners where they are at. As a result, the Inter-Lakes School District will be implementing Wonders. This all inclusive resource will provide our students and educators with a comprehensive approach to reading and writing. I want to thank the Inter-Lakes School Board for their support, as a resource like this is a large commitment. I also want to acknowledge our educators as they have already completed the initial professional development and are preparing their classrooms and schedules for the implementation.

Computer Science

In response to New Hampshire’s House Bill 1674 there was significant conversation and work around the implementation of computer science and digital literacy last year. After much problem solving and discussion from participating parents and educators, the decision to replace world language with

computer science was approved by the Inter-Lakes School Board in May. The curriculum will include digital citizenship, play-based programming, hardware and software exposure, and healthy technology habits. To facilitate the adopted curriculum, Ms. Wilcox will switch from teaching world language to computer science on Mondays. In addition, Dr. Dassori will be working an additional day each week to support information literacy in specials and the classrooms. We are excited for these new opportunities, but also understand that removing foreign language has an impact. As part of last year’s discussions, we are hoping that we may find the right person to run an extra-curricular language program after school. If you know of that person, please contact me.

Safety at SCS

The Inter-Lakes School Board, administration, and faculty remain committed to student health and safety. Over the past two years, each campus has received significant safety upgrades. This summer a state of the art emergency and surveillance system was installed at each school. This system will allow us to monitor the security of the facility and communicate with emergency personnel efficiently. This year you will notice that staff will be wearing new enhanced ID badges and that there will be a call box at the main entrance. The call box will allow the office staff to grant visitors access to the foyer. It is our intent to maintain a welcome environment while also ensuring the safety of our students and staff.

First Day of School

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 27, 2019.  Students may arrive at SCS as early as 7:35 am. The instructional school day will start promptly at 7:55 am. Kindergarten pick-up will remain at 12:05 pm and all remaining students will be dismissed at 2:35 pm. The start of the school year is both exciting and busy. The SCS staff and I are looking forward to a great start! In the event that that you have questions, comments or concerns please call us at 603-284-7712 or email me at I hope you have a great August!
