The students enjoyed a trip to Canterbury Shaker Village on May 10th that was sponsored by Guiseppes, Kathryn Rolf of Oglethorpe and the Country Carriage. This group of merchants covered the cost of the entire trip and we GREATLY appreciate it!
Shaker Village was a community that was interdependent, in which people lived their daily lives and got jobs done. While there, the students went back in time as new members of a Shaker Village in the 19th century.
They learned a Shaker dance, explored the daily life in the Dwelling House, designed a washing machine with their bodies, attended a Shaker school and made a package to store Turtle Beans. The students discovered, through hands-on activities, how spirit, cooperation, inventions, efficiency and perseverance allowed the Shakers to survive and thrive as a community.
